What Causes Severe Muscle Spasms After Kidney Surgery?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Oct 2015
Question: I recently went through surgery to remove a very large kidney stone. I understand I was on my stomach for over 4 hours. Is it normal to experience severe muscle spasms that can be very intense from my kidney. I am not much on taking pain pills and muscle relaxants so taking nausea medication too. They put me on Hydrocod/acet5-325mg every 4-6 hours as needed andcyclobenzapr 5 mgtabs 1 tab by mouth 3 times a day.. Although the medication lessens the pain and spasms , just wanted to know about the spasms is this normal. The pain I felt after surgery was so intense, would rather have a child. That's how bad it was.

Brief Answer:
Pain after Kidney surgery can be severe.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
During any surgery, anaesthesia will be given and the patient will not have any pain.Once the surgery is over and Anesthesia effect is gone, patient will experience pain.Severity varies from surgery to surgery.
During removal of Kidney stones, muscles will be divided and sutured once the procedure is over. So,there will be severe pain once the anaesthesia effect is gone.
I prescribe Skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside along with Anti inflammatory tablet to my patients after similar procedure.
Please consult your doctor and review the medicines if the present tablets are not relieving your pain.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
