Brief Answer:
you should check serum electrolytes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

cramps are sometimes difficult to approach diagnostically and therapeutically. In many cases the cause cannot be revealed. Patients who use diuretics should always check their electrolyte balance since diuretics may impair them. Sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium are the ones you should check although in most cases sodium or potassium disorders are implicated. I'm not sure whether hydrochlorothiazide would be better for you or not. This is up to your doctor to decide. Have you done any tests? Why did your doctor stop spironolactone? Was your potassium levels high?

If the electrolytes are OK then I doubt you'll ever find out what's wrong.

Dehydration is common for patients on diuretics. You should make sure you drink enough fluids to compensate for daily losses. Thirst should guide you.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind regards!
