What Causes Severe Ear Ache When Diagnosed With Sinus Infection?

default
Posted on Sat, 14 May 2016
Question: I was diagnosed with a sinus infection two weeks ago and put on doxycycline. Last weekend Saturday I went to the Redi-med with a severe ear ache and was put on another antibiotic but that evening my eardrum ruptured. I went to the doctor 5 days ago and was put on another antibiotic, Omnicef, and given ear drops. It's been a week since the rupture and I continue to have yellow fluid leaking out of my ear. The last couple of days I've started to feel achy all over and lethargic. Just wondering how long should this continue?

Brief Answer:
Suffering from the acute otitis media

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
I have gone through your query; it suggests that you may be suffering from the rhinosinusitis with acute otitis media.

It is absolute necessary to control the sinus infection either conservatively or surgically to control the ear infection.

I suggest you some investigation for better management
1. CT scan paranasal sinuses to see the extent of the disease.
2. Ear swab culture and antibiotic sensitivity test for better selection of the antibiotic.

I also suggest you that
1. Avoid putting water, oil and ear bud in the ear canal.
2. Steam inhalation three times a day.

Should I continue on the current antibiotic I've been on Thursday evening for now? How long should it take for the ear to stop leaking fluid?
