What Causes Seeing Of Starbursts In Bright Light Post Cataract Surgery?

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: I had a cataract removed almost one month ago. It was completely successful and I now have 20/30 vision after having 20/90. A couple of weeks ago I noticed "starbursts" around bright lights at night only. Is this an indication of a problem that requires YAG laser? I've heard so many horror stories about YAG laser and I only have one eye that can see at all. My vision is soo good and I don't want to lose any of it. I don't want floaters or blurry central vision, etc. What do you recommend I choose to do? Can I just live with the starbursts or will the vision get cloudy after a few months or years which is a posterior capsolotomy? Email address: YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
Yag laser is required for a condition called as after cataract.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
The symptoms of star bursts in bright light does not always indicate after cataract.
After cataract which is the opacification of the remnants of the capsule of the lens after cataract surgery usually occurs after 3-6 months of cataract surgery.
Since it is only one month following the surgery, I think this is unlikely.
The other causes can be like inflammation caused by surgery, corneal edema....

Hence first thing I advice is not to worry, consult your doctor as per your schedule to find out the cause.

YAG laser is a very simple procedure done for after cataract. It has got minimal or no complications. I have been doing it regularly in my set up and I have not come across any problem, hence no need to be worried about yag laser.
But I think it may not be required now.

Hence I advice you not to worry first consult your doctor and do write back to em with the examination results and based on this we can plan further.

Hope this information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
