What Causes Ringing In The Ears While Having Stress?

default
Posted on Mon, 19 Jun 2017
Question: I am 70 years old, and have many of the standard symptons for old age, but I have a couple I am not sure of, I hae a ringing in my ears all the time. But sometimes I hae a sound, yes sound, like a spring going "boing" in my head. I happens when I am very uptight and under a lot of pressure at work. I own the business with my son. this "boing" started about 6 months ago and would happen occasionally. Now, it seems to be two or three times aweek, when my blood pressure is up and I am feeling anxiety over something, when I turn my head or move suddenly it "boings". Is this anything to worry about?

Brief Answer:
Could be cerumen in teh ear canals!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This in itself is not worrisome. However, it could be caused by common disease conditions such as wax/cerumen in the ear canals. As this is also often associated with stress/anxiety, it might be related to increased blood pressure as well.

This would be my approach:

1. Examine the ear canals to make sure there is no obstructing wax. If there is any, I will suggest that we wash it off and that resolves the problem.

2. If there is none, I will recommend that we monitor the blood pressure during these episodes. If it is elevated, you should be managed for anxiety attacks to address this.

If responses are not gotten, only then will I recommend that you see an ENT specialist for further review.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.
