What Causes Restlessness And Anxiety In An Elderly Person?
Question: Hi doctor
My mother 65 years of age is complaining about anxiety and restlessness. She also doesn't feel like doing anything or going out. This is there since last one month. Same thing has happened 1.5 years back then doctor has prescribed medicines for 2 months (enclosed). Then she was ok . Later she was taking trika .25 whenever she feels anxiety.
She is diabetic and also taking blood pressure medicine. Her last blood was 110/70 2 days back and sugar was 115.
My parents live alone as I stay in other city. She is alone in house from noon till 9pm. Sleep is ok and she sleeps by 10:30 pm till 5 am. In between she says she becomes awake in between at 2 am.
Can I repeat same treatment as her earkier doctor is not in XXXXXXX these days.

I can understand your concern. She was given 25 mg XET CR or Paroxetine CR, Trika 0.25 and Pramipax 0.25 for 5 days and then 0.375 per day.
She was on right antidepressants and if she developed improvement with these medicines then these can be started without any worries.
Instead of starting with 25 mg XET CR I'd advise you to start her drugs with 12.5 mg XET CR and after about 2 weeks increase the dose to 25 mg. This will not cause any side effects and she will develop improvement in her symptoms. Rest medicines should be same in same doses. Please talk with her doctor before starting medicines if possible.
