What Causes Reddish Discolouration In Toe While On Lipitor?

default
Posted on Mon, 15 Feb 2016
Question: I noticed a dark, reddish, half-dollar area on the bottom on my left, big toe. I take 5 mg of Lipitor daily. During a pedicure the gal removed the discolored skin. Is this an indication of something serious or something I need to have looked at?

Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
Hello & thank you for submitting your question.

I can understand your concerns especially after seeing an online video like you describe!

However, it is unlikely that the discoloration is a direct indicator of your risk for a myocardial infarction. Because the area was able to be removed from your foot by pedicure methods, it is likely that it represents an unnoticed bruise or area of old injury.

If you start to see other areas of discoloration, I would certainly bring this to the attention of your physician.

It is good to be aware of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease and since you're seeing a cardiologist, I believe you're getting regular physical examinations and blood work for parameters such as lipids and glucose levels.

As you probably already know, if you begin to experience troubling symptoms such as chest pain, dizziness, arm pain, fatigue, palpitations, profuse sweating, or unexplainable abdominal pain with exertion or at rest, please see a physician or emergency room immediately.

Thank you again for submitting your question.

Sincerely,
Dr Galamaga
