What Causes Red Blister At The Site Of Wound On Knee?

default
Posted on Mon, 21 Sep 2015
Question: I fell two weeks ago and sustained a wound on my left knee. A large thick scab developed covering the wound. The scab came off a few days ago (i may have encouraged it a bit by picking at it. There was a small amount of blood at the sight but not much. I left it uncovered afterwards.
This morning I noticed a bright red blister at the site. I have pretty bad varicose veins on this leg.
40 years ago I sustained a bad bruise on my shin and cellulites developed necessitating complete bed rest and antibiotics . I recovered but perhaps that is part of the spider veins on that area.

Brief Answer:
blister at knee after trauma and scab formation

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic. Seems like a local infection. You must not have scrapped off the scab which had formed until it had shed off itself. If lesion was fairly large or moderate, topical antibiotic creams would have helped with healing as well as local care with antiseptics. The varicose veins will not have lead to it. I would suggest you to get it reviewed with a surgeon and get it cleaned with antiseptics and if fever or other signs of local inflammation are observed then taking antibiotics like augmentin may help. Also the fears of last bad experience with cellulitis will be helped ny prohylactic use if antibiotic cover.Use of topical antibiotic creams like fucidic acid or neomycin may also help. If any puss or discharge develops then sending that for cultures and senstitivity will be better.
