What Causes Possible Test Result For Suboxone While On Oxycodone?

default
Posted on Thu, 4 Aug 2016
Question: My son takes suboxone on a daily basis and the last drug test he took for probation (mouth swab) came up positive to Oxycodone and he doesn't even take that. I also did a 12 panel drug test at home just now and is is coming up positive for Oxycodone but he only takes suboxone. At the Suboxone clinic it comes up positive to benzos. Is it possible for the suboxone to come up positive for either of these drugs??? Please help, his probation officer wants to vioalte him for this and we don't know what to do. He definately did not use either one.

I need an answer to this ASAP. He is going again tomorrow morning to do another drug test. We really need to have an answer to go back to Probation with.

the test he is given by Probation is a mouth swab and the test at the Suboxone Clinic is a urine test.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Drug testing is highly accurate. Modern tests, especially mouth swabs, do not have false positives. A urine screen can have false positives for benzodiazepines only if the patient is taking a medication called sertraline. Otherwise, it is also highly accurate. This means that your son very likely took an opioid other than suboxone, and very likely took a benzodiazepine, with greater than 99.9% certainty.
