What Causes Poor Memory?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: My mother who is 88 years old got lost for five hours driving to the market four days ago and since has displayed forgetfulness such as forgetting how to use the mouse on the computer and how to turn water faucet on outside. This is very sudden. There are no physical symptions except she said her head was pounding and she was jittery five days ago. Her blood pressure meds were recently lowered so i assumed that was the cause. Could this be related to a XXXXXXX stroke?
Can this be dementia, this fast?

Brief Answer:
Alzheimer's disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi Madam,

I have carefully read your query and understand your concern.

These features in your mother strongly suggest of Alzheimer's dementia.

As per your symptoms addressed, this clinically stages to mild form of AD.

It usually begins gradually from preclinical stage where mild memory disturbances are occur, which are usually unnoticed by the patient.

Significant attention to these symptoms come when the disease progresses from mild to moderate stage.

It can begin in anyone who is above 70 years of age.

To rule out stroke a non contrast CT scan is needed.
This can also diagnose AD radiologically.

Specific diagnosis of AD can be made on Brain SPECT scan and Lumbar puncture for CSF analysis.

Post your further queries if any,
Thank you.
