What Causes Foot Drop And Instability In Right Leg?

I have foot drop and instability in my right leg and feel weighted down especially when I take a shower. I have had 3 MRIs...brain contrast and non contrast and cervical...lower lumbar...thoratic...all OK. Then I had a lumbar puncture and this was OK also. A nerve conduction test was done and some numbness found...what is going on with me?? I still have no diagnosis and am at a lose as to what to do next. My DR said this isn t MS, ALS etc. I am a 58 yr female, 5 1 and until this problem began walked 2 miles a day and very healthy.

Hi,

Foot drop occurs because of involvement of common peroneal nerve. Foot drop may be caused by nerve root compression in the lumbar spine but since you said that your lumbar spine MRI is normal. We are left with nerve conduction studies for common peroneal nerve only. Instability is most often caused by ligament problems in the knee, so at present you need to have a scannogram of the lower limbs along with an MRI (knee) of the involved side.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
