What Causes Persistent Stomach Ache, Loose Stools And Stomach Growling?

Question: I was in the ER two weeks ago and had an I'VE drip of Clindamycin and Cipro (reacted with rash to that;allergic) after that, in an effort to treat a bad scratch (bite?) from a feral cat. The cat is out of quarantine now and I have finished a regimen, of (first) a shot at my personal Dr. Of Rucefin?, followed by a 10 day regimen of Clindamycin and Amox Trk CHL? (Two strong anti-bio's. I took OTC Pro-biotic pills along with the anti-bio's to maintain my gut "good" bacteria and, also, had two parts of the series of Rabies shots while the cat was watched in Quarantine, for ten days. I take 10 mg Lisinopril (in the morning) with HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide with Triamterene) and two baby enteric aspirin and Carvedilol (2 x daily), and a multivitamin. I take 1/2 of a 1 mg Xanax (Alprazolam) at 7PM, another 1/2 of 1mg Xanax at 10 PM and 1/2 of 1mg Xanax at 2 or 3 AM, when I get up to take a leak in the middle of the night. The cat lived and did not show rabid signs at the Vet's quarantine, thankfully, so I stopped the series of shots (had two in the buttocks in the ER and one shot in the shoulder 4 days into this ordeal. The infection has healed and scabs fallen off the cuts/bite but now I have a a gnawing lower left (mostly) ongoing aching pain that is worse if pressed (2 inches down from belly button and to my left about 3 inches (where the pain is most prevalent if pressed, though I have an ache all over the lower abdomen. I had some ongoing residual pain from three hernia repairs done a year and a half ago (Left and Right inguinal and belly button hernia repairs done laparoscopically). I had acute retention post surgery and stretched my bladder to 1300 ml, twice before a Foley catheter was inserted (removed 15 days later). This "stomach ache" is more pronounced than the ongoing nerve pain from surgery and seems to be getting worse. My stomach is growling andI am able to eat, pass urine (though slow and diminished volume at times). My stools look normal in color but are loose. No signs of blood in either urine or stools. I don't seem to have very large stools but small amounts a couple of three times a day. I am at a loss to explain this. Can you speculate on what I should tell my Doctor to look for, please? I am worried.

Brief Answer:
Side effects of antibiotic is strong possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I would ask your doctor for multi drug evaluation first. There are multiple medication that you were on and recent antibiotic would have rumbled the healing stomach post surgery.

Al though the course of antibiotic is just over 2 weeks I still feel that Amox plus Clavulunic acid has the potential to cause the abdominal pain plus loose stools. There was a prior surgery for the hernia and you were put on few antibiotics and you may have gradually developed intolerance to these. As the days pass by the symptoms would gradually subside. Till then I would advise you to continue on the probiotics. It is also good to repeat an Ultrasound Abdomen to check for organic maladies that may be related to the stomach pain without which drug overuse cannot be labelled.

Since the appetite, bowels are good there seems no cause for concern while you can try home remedies to keep the stomach pain under control.
