Is Evaluation Necessary For Belly Button Hernia Due To Discoloration And Sensitivity?

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Oct 2017
Question: I have a belly button hernia and it's getting woerst. I keep postponing the operation due to my schedule because I understand that to allow the operation to " take " I have to do nothing for about three weeks. I'm not sure this will ever be possible to accommodate but I must do something soon I think. The belly button is sticking out further every three weeks or so. It seems to be causing some nausea and chills now as well.
I want someone who does mostly this operation and I will require the mesh implant. I'm growing concerned because my belly button is changing from red to purple and is becoming more sensetive. Can I keep putting this off?

Brief Answer:
Rule out obstruction or strangulation

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
The very change of color from red to purple in belly button and increased sensitivity indicates the inflammatory process going on in the hernia or so, hence the need for proper evaluation and investigations to see whether there is inflammation of the contents of hernia, obstruction or strangulation by means of the following:
Clinical evaluation and examination by a General Surgeon.
High resolution ultrasonography or CT scan if needed.
To see whether nausea and chills is being caused by this and whether there is need for urgent exploration and hernial mesh repair.

Do not use brace at all as it can complicate the matter further.
