default
Posted on Fri, 30 Sep 2016
Question: My urination has been more frequent, maybe 2-3 times a night. I am a 66 year old male. This afternoon I had to urinate but rest room at office was occupied for a few extra minutes. When I got in I had an initial burning and a small amount of blood came out first. Subsequent urination no blood. What's up?

Brief Answer:
Need expert's advise

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for the query.I have read it & understood your concern.
The frequency of urination can be due to many causes including- local irritation or itching/ allergy/infection of urethra or bladder, infection of prostate, stds/ stones in bladder
You have frequency of urine..specially in the night ... not associated with fever, pain, inflammation or pain in lumber region. The drop of blood in the beginning was detected once.( may be due to stressful/ forceful voiding of urine .. the same can cause a drop of blood).so at your age & symptoms more possibly you have -
- Age wise weakness of bladder muscles to hold urine
- diabetes
- Enlarged prostate
- bladder inflammation
- Urethritis
In this context, I would advise for a detailed physical examination to exclude inflammation or infection of urethra/ urine tests to exclude ( infection, stones)/urine culture & sensitivity as per need/ X ray if needed. .Also fasting & post meal blood sugar to check for diabetes P/R examination to find enlarged or infected prostate.
Please consult your family physician , who wold direct you to a Kidney specialist for expert advise if needed
* Once the cause for trouble is found specific treatment would be offered to manage your problem.
Self care-consists of good personal hygiene along with
- drinking less water in evening to avoid trouble at night.
- avoid drinking alcohol/ fizzy drinks or smoking
- avoid local irritants like toiletries/ spermicide gels
Thus with expert advise & self care I am sure you would be free of the bother-sum problem soon.
I hope, the answer was informative & helpful to you. Ant follow up query is welcome.
Thanks
