Brief Answer:
Considerations.

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

Regarding this particular symptoms there are several possible contributing factors.

One thing that can cause peeling and cracking of the lips is repeated licking of the lips. This is sometimes done when lips are dry.

Other possibilities include dehydration. If she is not drinking enough fluids this can cause dehydration and can cause dry cracked lips.

I would suggest she use a topical moisturizer which can be purchased at a pharmacy to see if this helps slowly improve the symptoms.

if symptoms do not improve I think it would be reasonable for her to visit with her primary care physician for a focused consultation, physical examination and possibly some laboratory testing to make sure there are no metabolic issues which could contribute to this including thyroid dysfunction or electrolyte abnormalities.

thanks again for sending the question. Please let us know if you have any additional issues in the future.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
