Brief Answer:
Can be due to inflammation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain under the knee cap with a swelling can be due to inflammation of the bursae around the knee. An internal injury to the knee joint structures can also cause such symptoms.
You can get an MRI scan of the knee done to know the extent of problem. Till then do take an anti inflammatory drug like Ibuprofen and use an elastic knee brace for support to the knee.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
I have seen the attached images. Your left knee is swollen. This is likely to be due to a swollen bursa. Anti inflammatory medicines and rest will help in healing.

Brief Answer:
Patellar tendon strain with inflammation of bursa.

Detailed Answer:
The findings are suggestive of tendonitis with strain of patellar tendon and effusion of infrapatellar bursa. This can heal with conservative treatment. Avoid weight bearing on the leg and use an elastic knee brace for at least 4-6 weeks. Do take oral anti inflammatory medicines regularly after consulting your orthopedician. Doing a hot compress on the area will help in early healing.

Brief Answer:
Rest and knee brace is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Right now your knee joint needs rest. Doing practice for games can cause further deterioration. You can take pain killers like Ibuprofen or Advil. Do consult your orthopedician before taking any medicine for proper prescriptions. Do not continue taking any pain killer for a long duration without consulting your physician.
Delayed healing and stress can cause scar tissue and persistent pain in the knee joint.
Regards.
