Brief Answer:
Please see a cardiologist first.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX ! Good morning. I am Dr Shareef answering your query.
As per the age group you are in , and with a history of
hypertension,
IBS and
GERD, if I were your family physician, I would go for a blood sugar test of yours to start with. If normal, I would refer you first to a cardiologist to rule out any chances of an undetected cardiac problem which might be giving rise to such spells. Also I would advise for a routine monitoring of your blood pressure during such attacks.
GERD could also give rise to such attacks. For this, you have to continue taking your prescribed
proton pump inhibitor drug/prokinetic drug if any. Apart from this you shoud avoid oily and fatty food and go for more of a bland diet with enough roughage and lilquids. You could also raise the head end of your bed by a block or two which would reduce the reflux of acid contents from your stomach. Also try to reduce your weight (if
overweight) with some exercises within your own medical limits. Reducing weight definitely has got a beneficial effect on the symptoms of GERD and also on your serum lipid level considered harmful on the cardio vascular system. More advice on GERD could be had from your consulting gastro enterologist.
Removing any kind of
stress also reduces the symptoms of GERd and IBS.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts.
Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
