What Causes Pain In Lower Abdomen During Pregnancy?

default
Posted on Tue, 20 May 2014
Question: I am 23 weeks pregnant. Sometimes I have pain in my lower abdomen. When I told doctor about my this problem she suspected vaginal infection and prescribed Clingen Forte and Ceftum 250. Besides she also prescribed to get vaginal swab and urine test done.Reports of the two tests do not shows any organism growth in 2 days at 37 degree Celsius. For Clingen forte I read that it should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefits justify the potential risk to the fetus and ceftum 250 is an antibiotic so I am confused that whether should I consume these medicines even if my reports donot show any pathogen growth in vagina.

Brief Answer:
DONT SEE ANY NEED TO TAKE THE MEDICINES.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
If the vaginal swab is negative, there should be no reason to take antibiotics locally or orally.
You are right about Clingen Forte, it should be taken when the potential benefits outweigh the risks, and Ceftum as such is safe in pregnancy , particularly after the first trimester.
But if there is no growth on the vaginal swab, none of these are justified.
Mild pain sometimes in the lower abdomen is common during pregnancy, from the second trimester onwards, as the uterus enlarges and presses on surrounding nerves and tissues.
All the best

Hello Doctor
Thanks for replying.
I got my CBC analysis done when I was 21 weeks pregnant. In the report WBC count is 13.1/H ( ref range 3.8-10.8), Neutrophils count is 84.5/ H (Ref range 40-75) Lymphocytes count is 9.8/ L (ref range 16-46 ) Absolute Neutrophils count is 11070 H (Ref range 1500-7800).During my first trimester I suffered from Hepatitis E infection I was also admitted in the hospital for 3 days but now I am OK. In last few months I did not have any kind of illness so what could be the reason for this out of range count.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
I have gone through the reports.
During pregnancy, some amount of increase in the white blood cells is normal.
There is no infection in the urine or vaginal swab, so there is no need to worry about the blood report also.
All the reports are normal.
Dont worry.
Take care.
