What Causes Pain In Calf?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Jul 2014
Question: I have pain in my right calve that came on suddenly a few hours ago.
I am a 59 year old female diagnosed with Type II 22 years ago. I was just placed on an antibiotic (bactrim) Friday to treat a foot ulcer that was at the early stages of infection. Also on my right (foot). I have been taking Neurontin for that pain, but I can already tell it's much better with 8 days of meds still to take.

Brief Answer:
Possible veins thrombosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Foot ulcer indicates that you have chronic veins insufficiency for many years. Such insufficiency makes you prone to veins thrombosis.
Calf pain is a symptoms of veins thrombosis and should not be ignored. You may have also hard calf and swollen calf (larger than the other one).
I suggest you to visit your doctor as soon as possible. Dopplers veins ultrasound should be done. In case of thrombosis, heparin treatment is necessary.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Okay. I understand you and I will see my doctor, but what do I need to do for the next 36 hours or so before I can see her? As most people, I'm sure, I do NOT want to have to go to the ER.

Thank you for your time.

Brief Answer:
.

Detailed Answer:
Unfortunately this is the condition which can not wait 36 hours. Please note that veins thrombosis can be life threatening as if the blood clot flows with the blood stream, can cause pulmonary embolism.
So I do understand you do not want to go to ER, but it seems that you have no choice. You can heal it at home.

Regards.
