Diabetes should be looked for and ruled out as it's a common association with such neuropathic pain. The foot should be thoroughly examined for any ulceration, calluses or swelling. NCS (Nerve conduction studies) and EMG (Electromyography) can be done to determine and localise the pathology, in consultation with your doctor.
