Question: Hi. I have an odd menthol sensation on my tongue, lips, eyes, head and private regions. Almost as if I have bathed in peppermint. All soft tissues are affected and I am worried. Please can you give me an idea of what it could be?

In response to your questions regarding the odd menthol sensation.......

I have had this condition for approx 3 weeks. It is continuous. It is not affected by wearing certain clothing. My job is a hotelier. Now that it has spread to my eyes I am finding it annoying. I also get headaches but have had migraines for 3 years. I also get pins and needles in my finger tips and feet. I have been tested for thyroid diabetes and anemia, all tests were negative. I have never had cannabis. I do drink alcohol but an average amount. I have had a bad back but I visit the chiropractor once a week at the moment. I look forward to your reply

Brief Answer:
I would suspect neurological problem

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear. Thanks for your revert.Sorry for the delay.

I am glad to know that your hormonal tests are normal. As per your description, I would attribute your symptoms to nerve related problems.

I would be glad to know the reason for visiting chiropractor.
Have you had a recent injury(orthopedic or spine)? Can you please tell why & since when you have been visiting him and what treatment he has been giving?
Have you discussed about this with your doctor who is treating you?
Does your symptoms increase with alcohol?

Await your reply.

Hi Dr XXXXXXX

In response to your email. The reason for visiting the chiropractor is general wear and tear, I was having pain in my lower back. The chiropractor has aligned my spine and has moved my pelvis slightly further back. He sometimes cracks my neck puts pressure on my spine when I am laying on my front. He says my treatment is almost complete. I have been visiting him for 3 weeks. I have not discussed the menthol sensation (eyes, tongue etc) with him as I did not think it was relevant. I am not sure whether the symptoms decrease or increase with alcohol but they definitely do not disappear. I have read on the internet that my symptoms could be to do with GERD but i do not get indigestion also that would not explain the pins and needles in finger ends and feet. I am worried mostly about the menthol sensation in my eyes and hope it does not affect my sight! I look forward to your reply. Kind regards, Bev

Brief Answer:
Need detailed work up

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Thanks for your revert.

As discussed earlier your symptoms are suggestive of neuropathy/compression of nerves.Since you have undergone a couple of procedures involving spine and pelvis it is likely that your current symptoms would have originated from the same.According to me a detailed work up has be done to identify the cause of your ailments(MRI spine and pelvis).

Menthol sensation in your eyes is definitely not due to GERD and doesnot result in loss of vision. However I would suggest to meet neurologist for both the conditions.
