What Causes Occasional Pink Coloration In The Urine?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Mar 2017
Question: What can cause periodic "pinking" (blood) in urine?
Its happened twice now in about three weeks. No pain, other than a small area of burning pain in my stomach occasionally (probably ulcer (I had them when I was younger), or maybe tearing of scar tissue? I have lots of scar tissue from various previous surgeries (appendix, endometriosis, C-section, Conization from cervical cancer, gall bladder)

Brief Answer:
As discussed in details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Noted your history well and understood the concerns.
With the history of so many surgeries, the pinking of urine should be taken suspiciously.
The possibilities are:
Stone in the urinary system.
Infection/inflammation in the urinary tract.
Rare chance of malignancy.

I would advise you the following in such a case:
First of all to send the urine sample for tests: routine, microscopy to confirm bleeding, culture and sensitivity in case to decide for UTI and if present the most effective treatment.
Ultrasonography and CT scan to confirm or to rule out the cause.

I hope this answers your query and helps to get the cause at the earliest to have proper management.

Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
