Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: My son who is 11 is experiencing numbness in a 5 inch section of his shin below the knee. He is 5 - 5 and weighs 112 pounds and is in excellent health. Any idea why he would experience numbness - is it related to his growth?

Brief Answer:
It is not likely to be related to growth. Cause needs to be evaluated

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The numbness that you mention, is not normal. The cause needs to be evaluated. Conditions like neuropathy, some sort of nerve damage and leprosy could present with such symptoms and hence need to be ruled out. The other cause could be some sort of trauma. I would insist you not to panic. Please visit a dermatologist or a physician and get the child assessed. He might need to run a couple of tests to be sure about the cause.

I do not think that the condition has any relation with his growth.

Hope that helps.
