Posted on Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Question: Hello, I have been taking Tecta 40 mg once per day for one week for acid reflux. Yesterday I took one in the morning on an empty stomach and later in the afternoon was feeling nausea. Around 4 pm I vomited and saw the tecta in toilet undigested! I am wondering what could cause this?

Brief Answer:
Maldigestion due to possible acute illness...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Tecta 40 mg is containing a PPIs called pantoprazole. It is used to treat hyperacidity of the stomach due to acid reflux.

If nausea started only this afternoon, it might be due to an acute illness (possible acute gastroenteritis). It might have caused maldigestion too and increase in hyperacidity.

If this is your case, it is a temporary situation. I'd advise to keep well hydrated by drinking plenty of water with OTC ORS.

Next, probiotics are advised to use to normalize intestinal flora.

In case nausea was before you started Tecta, then, I'd advise to run further evaluations to exclude cholecyst issues (including abdominal ultrasound, liver function tests).

Hope it was of help!
