Posted on Mon, 18 Apr 2016
Question: I read that menstrual cramps decrease as you age. but I started out with no effects other than the usual bleeding when I was younger. then within the last threeish years mine changed from a consistent flow the whole time to moderate the first three days and very light the rest of the time. also cramping and feeling nauseous accompanies usually the first day but sometimes through the third. what would cause this change?

Brief Answer:
Ovulation

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Initially for few years after menarche, there is no ovulation, hence there is no pain during periods, and the blood flow is increased.
When the ovulation starts, the periods become painful and the blood flow decreases during periods.
This is the reason for change in the pain and flow of periods as the time advances.
Hope you found the answer helpful.

Brief Answer:
Rule out fibroids and endometriosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
You should get your self examined by an OBGYN specialist to rule out any fibroids in the uterus or endometriosis, which are known to cause such changes in the periods.
