Question: I sm 84 yrs old and have a history of reactin to certain drugs, i.e. Loratab, Tramidine and several others.I hallucinated with loratab and shot myself in the leg (Or so I was convinced) I am on Eloquis and p[lavix, , had open heart surgery a year ago, for breathing problems and I have AFib, Macular degeneration, , Neuropathy, aching joints, sometimes my ankle caves in on me andI can' t stand up. (with quick recovery), mood changes with thought of suicide occasionally . Bad dreams trouble sleeping,/. I now have a urinary infection and my doctor wants me to take Ciprofloxacin. From what I have read, this drug is only for use when
other drugs cannot be used or have not worked. I have tasked many drugs and always have read the side effects, However, I have never been exposed to such multiple side effects as described abouCiprofloxacin.
My Doctor ays not to worry. Suggestions?

Brief Answer:
I will say go on and take this drug!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about these worries you have expressed about ciprofloxacin. This is a commonly used antibiotics and very few persons develop reaction to it. True there are many other antibiotics that can be used to treat urinary tract infection alongside ciprofloxacin. However, the final decision comes to your doctor and you teh client. If you have strong reasons against or you are allergy, it is clearly not a must take. Other options can be considered. However, it cannot be denied just because of the listed side effects as their occurrence is very rare. I will personally comment that you take this drug as prescribed. Avoid milk products and drink much water while on it.

I hope this addresses your worry fully. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Since inquiring with yu , I received a message from my Dr.'s assistant that another drug has been ordered for me.

My resistance to the use of this drug is that it says in the "possible side effects" that ciproflaxacin is used only when other drugs have not worked!. I have never seen that warning in any other drugs I gave taken.
