Posted on Mon, 23 Nov 2015
Question: I'm 24 and I have a lump in my right breast I have had 2 ultra sounds in the past and both have come back as normal breast tissue. my breasts feel a bit bumpy in general, this lump is firm but is squishy under the skin and it feels like it has a slippery surface, it's easy to locate, wanted to check as I am a little worried.

Brief Answer:
Most likely a fibroadenoma.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for asking HCM.

I have gone through your query. Your problem can be most likely fibroadenoma. This is a benign tumor usually found in young ladies. There is nothing to worry as your ultrasound is fine. This is also called breast mouse as it is felt like a mouse sitting inside when pressed. Taking contraceptive pills also increases its occurrence.

This may disappear as its own. If it is increasing in size or making your breast uneven or painful then it can be removed surgically. Other wise you can have a follow up with your doctor and ultrasound examination to know the status of it.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.

My ultrasound scan was some time ago now but we're clear this was at least 12 months ago.. Back then they said it was normal breast tissue but thought I'd check. I'm not sure if it has increased in size but should I go back to see my GP?

Brief Answer:
Yes , you should have a check up again.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow up query.

It is better to have a check up again. You can go to GP but preferably by a Gynecologist or General surgeon for breast examination as you have done check p before 1 year. Also keep your old ultrasound to see whether it has increased in size.

If ultrasound examination again without problems then nothing to worry. But if it bothers you or for cosmetic reasons then surgical excision can be considered.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
