Question: Hi! My name is XXXXXX . I have been living and working in El Paso for several years. The last few years I've had extreme concentration problems ...very hard to finish simple tasks...without loosing interest . I've tried to make appointments with several psychiatrists ...but they don't accept Humana ..or have long waiting times. My twin brother was lucky enough to find a doctor ...he was diagnoses with ADHD and has been doing really well with the medications he is taking (adderall and something for mild anxiety )

What should I do?

Brief Answer:
need few details about your condition

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your twin brother has a diagnosis of ADHD and anxiety gives a positive indiaction that you might as well have the same or related disorder.

The complaint of difficulty in completing simple task can be due to ADHD or anxiety or even mild depression.
In order to suggest some specific diagnosis I would like to few details about your condition-
1. do you feel sad most of the time due to any reason..but more than needed. Is it difficult to enjoy life for you?

2. do you feel nervous or anxious for even simple reasons, get irrtated or angry fast?

3. were you a child who used to run all time, get many injuries ( more than your same age friends), had difficulty in sitting at one place for even some minutes, had difficulty in sleeping and were full of energy at all time?

Please think and reply to the above questions.

wish you good health.

Hello Dr. XXXXXXX .thanks for your response ..yes my brother and me are identical ...he has been doing well with medication. here are answers to your questions 1. I don't feel sad ...usually I'm pretty upbeat ...but scatter brained with tasks . 2. I usually initially feel anxiety when I'm meeting new people or traveling somewhere new...but I start to feel better after talking a bit ...I have a very low temper...but my frustration levels rise when I can't complete a task on time ... 3.I was very active as a child... didn't suffer many injuries ...I had difficulty sitting and concentrating too as a child ...I had to be moving around ... I think I had an okay time sleeping ...felt more 'restless' and full of energy ...Thank you . XXXXXX

Brief Answer:
it is suggestive of ADHD

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Your description of symptoms is almost typical of ADHD and presently do not show any form of mood disorder separately. I think that- drug for ADHD should suffice.

Presently we can hope to start with only 20mg of adderal and monitor response. It is taken in morning and may need to be increaed after week or so. I hope that you wont need anything separately for anxiety as it appears to be part and parcel of the hyperactivity spectrum and not much of an issue itself.

It is recommended that you get your routine blood tests,TSH, liver, kidney tests and lipid profile done prior to starting the meds. Get them empty stoamch.

So, you may discuss the diagnosis and treatment with your doctor and begin with the medicine.

It is a common and treatable disorder and donot loose hope at all.

There are some dietary recomendations which help in patients of ADHD, you should try to follow them as well.

Wish you good luck.
Please feel free to ask more questions for clarification.
