What Causes Left Sided Pain In The Head?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Mar 2017
Question: My wife had a sudden pain on the left side of her head in the middle of the night, as if something hit her. The discomfort continues this morning. She has suffered with memory loss for months. Her medications include Amlodipine and Labetalol for heart, more recently Donesepil, Ambien and Lyrica. The signs of stroke are not apparent. Does this sudden pain warrant attention at an ER this morning?

Brief Answer:
ER evaluation is necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Sudden head pain especially during sleep, may indicate subarachnoidal hemorrhage from rupture of any aneurysm or vascular malformation.

When suspected, these conditions warrant an ER evaluation even to exclude them.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Kind regards.
