What Causes Lack Of Focus And Tiredness?

default
Posted on Tue, 7 Jul 2015
Question: I am a 46 yo female. I have taken zoloft and xanax for many years with good success. My doc recently tried me on 10mg of Adderall (not the extended type). She told me to play around with the dosage a little. She has since left on a 2 week vacay. I was really nervous about trying it on day 1 and took only a half. I was so tired and couldn't quit yawning (fell asleep). Day 2 took 10mg and again, ended up taking a nap again. Day 3 took 10mg and then a few hours later took a nap. The first day I drank my usual Dr. Pepper and was probably dehydrated. So, Day 2/3, I cut the DP out. I didn't feel as bad, but still don't feel any effects except being tired and not really hungry. I'm 5'3 110lbs and don't have a big appetite anyway. My pharmacist looked at me like I was nuts when I told him I couldn't stay awake. Should I eat before taking it (if so, how early and what types of food). Please help. I'm so discouraged. My son, who is premed was saying hydration is hugely important and I haven't been so good at that, but did try to improve that and I felt better, but not focused and still tired. What would help this med work?

Brief Answer:
Increasing the dose is suggested

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for using healthcare magic for posting your query. I have gone through your question and I can understand what you are going through.
I understand that you have problems in staying focussed and feeling tierd. Adderall should be a good drug for you but unfortunately its working paradoxically by inducing sleep. It would be wise to consider switching the drug to either methylphenidate (30mg to 60mg) or modafinil (100mg to 200mg)./Both these drugs are effective in improving concentration and improving wakefullness. But these drugs will be dispensed to you only by showing a valid prescription from your local doctor.
Do discuss with your doctor the above mentioned treatment options.
Kind regards
Dr. Srikanth Reddy MD
