Question: Six months ago I started running. I had my beginner pains. Now every time I straighten my knee after it's been bent it feels weak, going to give out, soreness. It last about ten to twenty second them goes away. It happens every time I bend it then stand. Also it refuses to crack. It's only the left knee?

Brief Answer:
it is chondromalacia Patalla

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I think you are having a condition called chondromalacia patalla. In this condition there is softening on knee cartilage and patients ( Usually young girls) complain of pain when they get up from sitting position or use stairs. To confirm this i would recommend you to get MRI of the knee. Other possibility can be a meniscus tear.
I have following suggestions for you till you get this MRI.
1. Avoid squatting and cross leg sitting
2. Static quadriceps exercises as guided by physiotherapist
3. Do not run or do any sporting activity for 3 months.
4.Take Dicerin tablet after discussing with your doctor.
It is self limiting condition and you will feel better after exercise. It will take time though. Some time it can take 3 months to completely heal.
I hope this answer will be useful for you. Let me know if there is any other follow up question is there .
thanks

Brief Answer:
You have to restrict activities

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can understand that you do not want to stop running but if you continue to do that then your pain will not going to relieved and your cartilage damage can also increase. So my suggestion to you is that get your MRI as soon as possible. It will tell us if you are allowed to run.
So do not delay for MRI.I am looking forward to this report.
Thanks.
