What Causes Intermittent Constipation And Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Fri, 21 Aug 2015
Question: Yes please I have found in my still 1 broken rubber band looking object in my stool. It's about 2"long and about 1/8 of inch wide. It appears to have broken off though because one end was stretched til it broke, maybe. I have always had problems with going but over the past few years it bounces back and forth from constipation to diarrhea. So all week until yesterday I've been very constipated them since yesterday is been very loose. Do you know what the rubber band looking object could be? Also I have some discomfort in lower back and abdomen not bad as it has been in the past but just an annoying constant discomfort. A couple of months ago I had a bladder infection (something I've never had, not even a UTI) went to doc and took some 20 day twice a day round of 875 mg augmenten and still I feel pressure in my bladder and the urge to pee. An immediate urge to pee is there soon as I do pee? And do you feel the 2 are related?

Brief Answer:
Parasitic infestation, UTI

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

The broken rubber band looking object appears to be due to a parasitic infestation. Based on your description it appears to be a tape worm. You should isolate it and it can be examined by a parasitology lab. Stool for ova and parasite along with routine exam should be sent for. Single dose albendazole would be enough to treat the infestation in consult with your doctor. The urinary symptoms are related to a UTI. Instead of empiric antibiotic use get a culture /sensitivity testing done beforehand. When the results are available the antibiotics can be tailored accordingly. The two symptoms are most probably not related to each other, in my opinion.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
