What Causes Increasing Tenderness Of A Thoracic Vertebrae On Palpation?

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Jan 2015
Question: I have increasing tenderness of a thoracic vertebrae on palpation. It wakes me up at night. It is very isolated with no other neurological signs. I am 59, overweight and have a sedentary job. I had triple negative breast cancer 5 years ago, treated with chemo and radiation. The pain is definitely getting worse.

Brief Answer:
Please consult your oncologist to rule out bone metastasis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This pain should not be ignored and you should not wait with it any longer. I assume that you are under oncologist control. When was your last Ca 15-3 level checked? What was the stage of your breast cancer?
Your symptoms can be caused by a condition unrelated to the breast cancer. Spine disc herniation or osteoporosis can be the reason of your symptoms.
However, as you are breast cancer survivor, and this cancer likes to give bones metastases many years after the treatment, you should consult your oncologist at first. Spine MRI, Ca15-3 and ALP should be done. PET scan or bones scintigraphy should be considered.
Please do not wait with it.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

I do not go to any doctors. I am too ashamed of all the weight I have put on even though I am a vegan and do not eat baked goods or sweets. I have not seen the oncologist again since I finished treatment. We did not have a good relationship and the next nearest oncologist was 400 miles away and is actually the same person who just flew to the little town I live in every two weeks. He has a monopoly. Thank you for being kind enough to answer, I really don't know what I will do.
