What Causes High BP Post Child Delivery?

Question: Hi there, in the morning my blood pressure is around 120/83 then by evening it goes as high as 126-147 (top) over 94-103 (bottom). I am relatively healthy. I just had a baby 9 weeks ago. My whole pregnancy my blood pressure was completely fine then I had quite a traumatic delivery and since my pressures have been high. I did consult my family doctor about 5 weeks ago and was put on lisinopril. That did lower my pressure but I would still get higher readings sometimes at night and had terrible side effects so I went off it 2 weeks ago. It was I think 131/96 when i was at the doc last and she told me I can try lifestyle changes and come back in a month. I do stress about my blood pressure now constantly and take it multiple times a day. I'm just wondering if with these numbers (I'm mostly concerned with the bottom number when it goes over 100) if it's safe to continue to try changing diet and exercise? And also why would pressure be so high after delivery??? Oh and my blood work was fine. As far as kidney and protein in urine. I just hate to medicate if unnecessary. I'm 34 years old. No other issues. Well I do get heart palpitations but have had ma Echo and wore a 24 hour monitor. They have said they are pvc's that are not dangerous. Any insight is appreciated

Brief Answer:
Low cardiovascular risk, lifestyle changes for 6 months are recommended

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

Sometimes high blood pressure is seen after delivery. Changes in your organism during pregnancy, stress during delivery and the fact that your daily regimen completely changes with the baby contribute the rise of your blood pressure.
Majority of cases it solves with time and without any complications.

Your blood pressure is not that high to be concerned. In your age you have low cardiovascular risk and with your blood pressure treatment is not recommended. The first choice is lifestyle changes during 6 months, if they don't help then we consider treatment.

So, you shouldn't worry. Try to continue lifestyle changes. You have very low risk for any complication. I think your high blood pressure will resolve soon.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health

Hi, thank you so much for your answer and helping to ease my mind. I know part of it is just the fear of a high reading when I do take it. I just had one additional question that I forgot to mention the first time. Within the first couple weeks after delivery I had 2 events of some weird vision. It started with. Small squiggly spot in my vision that got bigger and bigger then went away within about 1/2 hour. I think I has a dull headache after but nothing terrible. I just wondered if this could be from the blood pressure or maybe hormone changes because of delivery? From what I can research it sounds like an XXXXXXX maybe? My family doctor didn't seem too concerned but had said because of my blood pressure of I got that vision issue again that I should go to ER. Is that actually necessary and what do you think that vision issue would have been. Haven't had it again for about a month or so. Hoping I never do again. It is scary. Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Nothing serious if you haven't had again

Detailed Answer:
Dear Mrs,

I think that your symptoms aren't related to your blood pressure. Your blood pressure wasn't that high to cause such symptoms.
If you don't have them about a month, there is nothing to be concerned. If you have such symptoms again, I would advise you to see an ophthalmologist and undergo XXXXXXX CT or MRI. But now there is no need to intervene.

Hope I could help you

Wishing you good health
