What Causes High BP During The Night?

default
Posted on Mon, 5 Jan 2015
Question: I have had totally controlled HBP (with meds) for about 45 years. In July, I was diagnosed with A-fib and the doctors doubled my metoprolol from 50 to 100 mg daily and also added Flecainide and Xarelto. Over the past 2 months, my blood pressure is fine during the day and at night but is very high immediately when I get out of bed in the morning (165-190 over 93-109). After I'm up for 1/2 hour or 45 minutes, then back in the normal range. Why would it be so high when I just wake up?

Brief Answer:
Increase dosage of anti-hypertensive drugs/start ACE-inhibitors

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

If I was your caring doctor would advise to run Holter blood pressure monitoring to evaluate your current condition.

I also advise to :

- increase the dosage of the antihypertensive medications you are currently taking

- start an ACE-inhibitor or ARB-inhibitor drug

in order to control your blood pressure.

Hope it was of help!
