What Causes Heavy Bleeding After Taking Levonelle?

default
Posted on Wed, 17 Jun 2015
Question: I am experiencing very heavy bleeding one week after taking Levonelle. For two days I have had to change a 'super' tampon every hour. This is much heavier than my usual period. I am beginning to feel slightly weak and wondered if this is a result of the heavy bleeding, or a coincidence? When should I worry and see a doctor?

Brief Answer:
heavy withdrawal bleeding...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query to healthcaremagic.com for an opinion,
Levonelle is a morning after emergency contraceptive pill and the typical withdrawal bleed following the intake generally starts within a week of intake. The bleeding in the initial few days in heavy depending on the phase of cycle it is taken in accompanied with cramps.
As the bleeding is heavy and you are experiencing dizziness and weakness already then you may opt for antifibrinolytics and NSAIDs together. You may use TAB TRANEXAMIC ACID 500mg thrice a day for next 3 days along with Tab mefenamic acid 250mg twice a day to control the bleeding and pain together.
This shall help you as ibugesic and citalopram have failed to provide relief. You should visit your physician soon and discuss the options above and take an informed decision as these medications are available on prescription only.
I hope i have answered yoru query in detail,
Wishing you good health,
Regards
