What Causes Headache With Abnormal Smoky Sensation In Throat?

default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: I have been having headaches for a few weeks (off and on) and a strange sensation in my throat...similar to what you experience if you've been in a smoky bar or somewhere where people are smoking. I don't really 'smell' smoke per se, but a strange sensation in my throat...

Brief Answer:
HEADACHES /THROAT SENSATION needs investigation

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXXXXX

I have gone through your medical history in detail.

Headache with abnormal smoky sensation in throat not relieved with medications & especially if ENT examination is normal, needs further investigations & treatment.

I would suggest you to

1. Take some local anaesthetic containing LOZENGES for symptomatic relief & take some ANALGESIC for headache .

2. Get your MRI BRAIN & MRI CERVICAL SPINE to rule out any local lesion causing these symptoms.

3 If both these MRIs are normal & symptoms are persisting, you may take some ANTI NEURALGIA medicines, as this could be due to NEURALGIA (glossopharyngeal)

4 If symptoms still carry on, you may try taking some ANXIOLYTICS.

I hope this answers your query. Feel free to contact me again for any further query.

Thanks

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX - what would the purpose of the MRI be? What sort of condition could this potentially be?

Brief Answer:
Headaches/ abnormal throat sensation-neuralgia

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms XXXXXXX
Hello
MRI is only needed if symptoms are agonising & persist even after taking medications .
MRI is mainly to rule out intracranial /cervical lesion as a cause of headache/abnormal sensation .
Neuralgia can be there even if MRI scans are NORMAL .

Thanx
Hope this answers your querry
