What Causes Hallucinations After Taking Ropinirole?

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Nov 2016
Question: I am taking ropinerol for RLS and my dr has increased my dosage to 6mg. I am having hallucinations and Im extremely confused all the time. From my understanding, I shouldnt even be on such a high dose for RLS to begin with...Do you have any advice on what I need to do from here. I CANNOT sleep due to the pain I get at night if I dont take the ropinerol.

do I need to stop the ropinerol? If so, how do I manage until I can get into dr. The symptoms become unbarable.

Brief Answer:
Ropinirole should be stopped, gradually.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

First of all, stopping ropinirole cold turkey (or suddenly) may result in undesirable side effects and symptoms, so, it is advisable to tapper it.

Ropinirole should be stopped due to the side effects.

The dose you are taking is a little too high, so,reducing the dose to 4 mg should be the first step.

Since the RLS is already diagnosed as you've mentioned, better alternatives such Pramiprexole in low doses could be started.

However, at your age, a confirmation of this diagnosis with sleep study and tests about diabetes, anemia, kidney and thyroid dysfunction, is necessary.

Please discuss with your Doctor about these issues.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
