2. CT scan is a procedure where pictures are generated in grey scale of various parts of the abdomen.

3. Every picture is made of multiple smaller units called pixels. There are numbers assigned to these pixels depending on the shade of grey that is present in the pixel called the HU value.

4. The CT scan machine differentiates about 1024 shades of grey and the HU value gives us information on the density of the area and what it might be.

5. It is for this reason that bones appear white and have a high HU value or grey number and air containing spaces appear dark and are assigned a negative value.

6. In your case, I suspect the grey spots might define soft tissue areas in the area of resection. The image has to be seen to tell with accuracy. However grey appearing areas in the abdomen CT might indicate soft tissue that is bowel or muscles in the abdominal wall and these structures are always grey. The fat around the bowel is dark and contains streaks of grey which are the vessels.
