What Causes Fever Followed By Light-headed Feeling, Low BP And Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Fri, 13 Mar 2015
Question: Around the first of the year I had a high fever for a few hours before it broke. Since then I have had lightheadedness and feeling lousy. I have traditionally low BP 118/64 to 90/55 and a pulse rate of 52-48 normally. When I went to the doctor for the first time after the lightheadedness I had a pulse of 40 and BP 90/55.
I have had all the heart test and all have come back well. Echo, EKG, Stress, Tilt Table, and more blood tests than I can remember.
Have had change in bowel habits and pain in the left lower and upper abdomen since just before Thanksgiving. Felt a stabbing pain for short times for 3 days in upper left abdomen x3 days. Then passed tissue with blood stripe through it and blood. That amount of blood has stopped but still spotting occasionally.
Have colonoscopy scheduled for next Friday.
Could the lightheadedness be from these issues?

Brief Answer:
Yes blood loss causes lightheadedness

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear.Thanks for your query.

Yes since your blood pressures are on lower side a little blood loss results in hypotension(low BP) and light headedness.

Glad that you noticed the bleeding well in advance.Colonoscopy shall reveal the possible reason for blood loss which can help in further management and curtail further blood loss.

Low heart rate is normal in athletics.Since your heart work up is normal nothing to worry.
Suggest to have plenty of oral fluids.Adquate hydration is important.Add 1/2 tea spoon of salt to 200ml water if you feel dizzy.
Watch for any further blood loss you may have.If dizziness is troublesome visit the ER without further delay if you are covered under insurance.

Await the colonoscopy report.Get well soon.
