What Causes E Emergency Bowel Movements Along With Nausea And Dizziness?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Dec 2014
Question: I have been experiencing mild abdominal issues for the past 2-3 months. The symptoms include 2-3 emergency bowel movements (usually in the morning) and more gas than usual for me. Recently (within the past 2 weeks) I've also been experiencing nausea, mild dizziness, and mild flu like cold sweats. My abdomen has felt bloated but not painfully sore, and there hasn't been blood in my stool. I kind of feel like there's some sort of obstruction but constipation doesn't seem to be a factor. Any idea what may be going on?

Brief Answer:
Course of medicines/ Investigations / further treatment .

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.

Since you have been suffering for 2 to 3 months and have the symptoms of emergency bowel movements, gas, nausea, dizziness, flu like cold sweats, bloated but not painful abdomen I would think of the following causes:
-Intestinal infection with disturbed GI bacterial flora.
-IBS meaning Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I would advise you the following in consultation with your Doctor as you will have to be examined physically as well as you have to get a prescription for the medicines you will need.

First of all get the following investigations:
-Blood: CBC, blood sugar, Thyroid function tests ( Free T3, Free T4 and TSH), Liver function tests, Kidney function tests.
-Urine : routine and microscopy.
-Stool: Routine, microscopy, occult blood.
-X-ray of the abdomen in standing position to see if there is any intestinal obstruction.
-Ultrasonography.

Take a course of an antibiotic, metronidazole, probiotic, Enzyme preparations with food. See the results of the treatment and the investigations you have undergone.
Relax , if the investigation are normal and the course of medicines has helped you.
If no relief, you may go for further investigations under the guidance of a Gastroenterologist: Colonoscopy and CT scan of the abdomen.

If all the investigations are within normal limits , a diagnosis of the IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be thought of and your Doctor will start a treatment accordingly.
If the investigations show some positive results as for other medical problems like diabetes or thyroid problem, their treatment will help you to get a cure,.

I hope I have tried my best to give you a guideline for a proper diagnosis and treatment. Please follow this and you will be alright soon.
