Brief Answer:
This is a very complex heart condition.

Detailed Answer:
The child has a very complex heart condition. The child needs to be seen by a pediatric cardiologist and pediatric cardiac surgeon. The heart has by birth defects on both sides of the heart and also the great artery called the aorta. Treatment needs to be based either on converting the heart into one or two chambers. Also the great artery needs to be enlarged. Further the treating doctors need to decide either to do all these corrections in 2 or three sittings as one operation will not be adequate.

I suspect that the post operative stay in the ICU also will be long.

I wish the child speedy recovery.

Regards

Thanks for your reply. We admitted the child in the escorts hospital in XXXXXXX under doctor KS Iyer and Dr S Radhakrishnan. He was operated on 28 th of feb and all three anomalies were addressed in the same operation. The child is currently recovering in the ICU and as per the doctors the surgery went exactly as per plan. In your view please advise if additional surgeries are required and the kind of post operative complexities and life expectancy that we can look at.

Brief Answer:
dear sir, i feel a good job has been done.

Detailed Answer:
I would like to mention in the beginning that you have gone to the best team and hospital to address the child's problem. The operating team will be the best person to answer all your questions as there are the treating dioctors. The present condition will determine the post operative recovery.

Regarding life expectancy the child will grow, have normal milestones and growth. Long term expectancy will be near normal but less than a child of general population. But in the future with better medical care it should be better. I feel you should not worry about life expectancy now and concentrate on the present conditions and taking the child home. The immediate future is what we have to concentrate now. I can understand the parents anxiety about the future of the child.
Congrats on your child treatment.
