In simple terms, microangiopathy means that few of your small blood vessels of the brain have their diameter narrowed due to the changes in their wall.
These changes cause the walls to become stiff and less non pliable, leading to decreased flow of blood through them.
For example, if you consider blood vessel to be a garden hose pipe. If the wall of this pipe gets thickened and stiff due to the chemicals or mud deposited beneath its layers, then the flow of water through the pipe will decrease, leasing to less water output from the pipe.
Similarly, if the small vessels have microangiopathy, its lumen will decrease leading to decreased blood flow to the area of the brain it is supplying.
Decreased blood flow will lead to lack of oxygen supply and nutrition to that part, leading to its inactivity.
These changes in the vessels can be due to age related (increased with advancing age), due to diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, lipid derangement in the body. So determine the cause, you should get yourself investigated, so that proper treatment can be initiated timely to prevent any further microangiopathic changes in the vessels.
Massive affected blood vessels can lead to stroke, which is an acute serious condition, due to lack of blood supply to certain areas of the brain.
So timely treatment is important in your case.
MR angiography should be done to assess the extent of vessel involvement.
