What Causes Difficulty In Breathing Despite Taking Medication?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Oct 2016
Question: I got a breathing trouble possibly due to late dinner and acidity reflux twice in past 3 weeks.

After check ups from doctors and PFT and chest xray, it was found out that there is moderate obstruction and restriction also. and so many medicines of anti-allergy, acidity and cold were given, when I was not having cold. I didn't take medicines and my family called me home and I showed other Doc in XXXXXXX and he said there is nothing much and gave anti-biotic and anti-acidity and cold medicine again. But I only took anti-acidity as suggested by Doc friend and started timely meals , sleep and yoga.

After coming back to Baroda and started having breathing trouble again I visited earlier doc again and he suggested to take anti-allergy one also. and couldn't tell me possible reason for this. I used to cycle to work , 6 kms one way, atleast 3 days a week, and I want to know if pollution-dust is the reason or anxiety, fast and erratic lifestyle. Should I continue cycling? Though I am not doing it now since 1.5 weeks.

Brief Answer:
You seem to be having allergy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXXXXX

Thanks for posting your query on HCM.

Having gone through your description and your medical history I am of the opinion that you are suffering from allergy which is resulting in breathing difficulty.

You could be allergic to many things commonest being dust and smoke which can aggravate the symptoms of allergy. Acid reflux can also cause as well as aggravate the symptoms.

You have to continue montair lc and omez d. You may need to take them regularly for at least 4 to 6 weeks. If symptoms are not controlled well then you may need inhalers as well. You may try symbicort inhaler.

Most of the times patient`s symptoms are not well controlled because he/she refuses to accept that they could be having allergy/asthma and default on treatment.

You should avoid dust and smoke as much as possible, take healthy diet avoiding junk food and rest well with regular hours for sleep. Once your symptoms are well controlled you may start with physical exercise and yoga and then even can go onto cycling.
