What Causes Diarrhea After Taking Antibiotics For Treatment Of Clostridium Difficile?
Question: I have had c diff test positive twice. After antibiotics I have also been on Welchol 625mg x 3 times daily. I have over the past months developed off and on diarrhea. Do you think this could be c diff back or would the diarrhea be vicious by now if I had c diff?

I am so sorry to hear about this cdiff and the diarrhea that you have reported. This diarrhea is not typical of cdiff as I would have expected it to be more vicious than this. The on/off nature may be a side effect of Welchol. Welchol has diarrhea as a recognized side effect. Ask you doctor about this and hear what he says. He may want to consider other lipids lowering drugs if this diarrhea is very worrisome. If it is mild, then I will say put up and carry on with the treatment.

I take Welchol to stop my diarrhea. So Welchol would not stop c diff? Is that what you are saying. So if I had c diff even on Welchol that is supposed to stop diarrhea my diarrhea would be profuse? Thanks for answering so promptly!

Why would you be taking Welchol for diarrhea. Have you had your gal bladder removed? Welchol has no effect on cdiff and cannot mitigate its symptoms. Welchol stops diarrhea by a mechanism that has just nothing to do with the way cdiff causes diarrhea.

Yes i had my gallbladder removed about 15 months ago.
