Question: I have diarrhea after taking amoxicillin for lymes disease for an extended pd of time. How can I get back to normal bowel habits?

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Using amoxicillin for long can result in c. difficillae gastroenteritis. This occurs when the good germs in the intestines are all killed by antibiotics allowing c. difficile to grow and cause harm to the intestines. I will recommend that you get you stool tested for this. The best treatment is metronidazole and vancomycine. If these fail, only then can stool transplantation be considered to reconstitute the intestinal flora.
