What Causes Delay In Periods After Medical Abortion?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Apr 2015
Question: Hi about a month ago I had a medical abortion. I immediately started taking the pill after this. The month had since finished and was expecting my period, but nothing happened. Has something gone wrong or am I paranoid or is it something else? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Do a blood pregnancy test.

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I will be answering your concerns today.

Though medical abortion is very effective, there is a small possibility of failure. After medical abortion, did you have an ultrasound to make sure that the abortion process is complete? Are you sure you aborted the gestational sac?

In my opinion in your case there are three possibilities for not getting period after taking a pack of pill.

1. While the body is getting adjusted to pill, sometimes a woman may not start period after the first pack. THIS IS NORMAL AND THIS IS THE MOST LIKELY CAUSE IN YOUR CASE.

2.New pregnancy occurred in this cycle. Yes pills are very effective in preventing pregnancy.Of the 100 women using pills correctly for one year just one woman may get pregnant. So there is a possibility of method failure more so if you have missed pills or used antibiotics in this month.

3. Medical abortion was not successful and you continued with the pregnancy. This is a VERY RARE possibility.

To clarify this, do a blood pregnancy test. In all probability it will be negative and you continue with your pill intake.

I hope I have answered your concerns. If you have further queries, do write to us. I will be happy to answer
