What Causes Daily Seizures?

default
Posted on Tue, 22 Apr 2014
Question: My daughter 40 diagnosed with MS 2-3 years ago. Is now having seizures almost daily. Been seen by Family MD, treated in ER to stop seizure activity & treat injury from fall related to seizure. Is not on any MS meds, nothing for seizure activity, finally got Neurology consult in May. recent MRI showed new plaques. How do we get the physicians to take this seriously? She could have serious permanent injury if we can't get her help

Brief Answer: Medications should be started. Detailed Answer: Hi, Thank you for posting your query. I have noted the symptoms of your daughter. In my opinion, she should be started on anti-epileptic medications (AEDs), as well as treatment to prevent MS relapses. MS itself could be the cause of seizures. Good AEDs for her could be oxcarbazepine, levetiracetam or lamotrigine. For MS, she should be started on interferon injections. I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.
