Posted on Tue, 28 Apr 2015
Question: iwant to take actalin in addition to 50mg levothyroxine which I have been on for some years but still feel terribly lazy, losing hair and menopausal symptoms worsening. I have taken estrogen and/or other meds for menopause to no avail, I have also been on Prozac or some form of antidepressants for 25 years. Could my symptoms be so easy as tobe caused by thyroid problems my last thyroid test was 3.3

Brief Answer:
When did you take your last thyroid test ?

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX..

Welcome to Healthcaremagic..

I have gone through your query and understood your concerns.

I don't hesitate to suspect that your thyroid issue could still be a possible reason for your symptoms over lack of estrogen/progesterone(i.e hormonal imbalance due to menopause) because of the following reasons..

1)Euthyroid state(normal levels of thyroid hormones) are needed for other hormones like adrenaline, estrogen etc to work properly..
2)Antidepressants especially SSRI's like Prozac(fluoxetine) may diminish the therapeutic effects of thyroid supplement..

I believe there is nothing wrong to repeat your thyroid profile(TSH including Free T3,Free T4 ) once again and the levothyroxine dose may be changed after analysing your report..

As far as actalin,i don't think it is going to boost your thyroid function..Just it can be an accessory to thyroid supplement.

Consult with your treating doctor regarding this and further proceed for the best of your health..

Further queries are welcome..

Regards
