What Causes Cramps, Nausea And Chills After Consuming Colace?

default
Posted on Sat, 20 Sep 2014
Question: Yesterday I took Colace, as I often do for constipation. I became almost immediately crampy, nauseous, and unable to go to the bathroom or to eat. I have had chills but no fever. I used a suppository, which helped only slightly. I am still having cramps, constipation, stomach bloating and nausea. I am unable to eat.

I am also weak--likely from the whole thing. Should I go to Urgent Care or ER?

I have a cardiology appointment in 1/2 hour. As I said, they don't think this has anything to do with the cardiac XXXXXXX I can't miss the appt, though.

Brief Answer:
Bowels obstruction is possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

This might be a symptom of bowels obstruction. Especially if you are unable to pass gases and your abdomen is bloated. Such obstruction at your age can be caused by colon cancer which needs to be ruled out at first.
Please go to ER if you have bloated stomach and gas obstruction. Abdominal X-ray should be done at first. Depending of its result you may need urgent surgery or further diagnostics like colonoscopy.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
